Like the actual aurora borealis, Atomic Northern Lights is a veritable rainbow that brings together Thai, Afghani, and a Northern Lights Backcross. A successful creation of Canadian breeder Dr. Atomic, this variant speeds up the Northern Lights flowering time providing for more harvests on an annual basis.
More About This Strain
Atomic Northern Lights’ 80-20% Indica heritage lends itself to the heavy body high this strain provides. But the 15-20-or-so percent Sativa ensures the buzz lasts longer and stimulates your mind, just a little bit, as well.
Legend has it that the original Northern Lights was bred into a 3-time cup winner in the 1980s in The Netherlands, where Sensi Seeds developed a stabilized version. Eventually, Dr. Atomic got ahold of the strain, and, in his Canadian laboratory, crossed Northern Lights with other strains in its family tree. The result was Atomic Northern Lights.
Taste: One beautiful thing about hazes is that the funky musk doesn’t always translate into taste. Atomic Northern Lights is a good example of this: its flavors are sweet and smooth, especially upon inhale. Haze makes itself a bit more present upon exhale, but many tokers report that more pure smoking methods (i.e., vaporizer over joint) lend themselves to extracting Atomic Northern Lights’ fruit flavors.
Scent: Typical pungent haze scents – with their unmistakable sweet and sour quality mixed with funk and spices – from the overwhelming majority of Atomic Northern Lights scent palate. But you’ll be pleasantly surprised by (and perhaps a bit startled, if you aren’t looking for them) by some of its sweet, almost sugary smells.
Appearance: Dark green sugar leaves blend seamlessly into lighter greens and yellows, especially as the bud works its way up to the top of the cone-shaped nuggets. There are glimpses of occasional purple as well. Pistils breathe their neon yellow fire from among the green leaves and complement the orange hairs nicely.
Texture: Like your typical Indica (or mostly Indica) strain, Atomic Northern Lights’ buds are long and compact; dense and conical. Of course, the Sativa parentage gives the buds a little fluff, like the teaspoon of baking soda you pop into pancake recipes to make those things puff, just a little.
